Meta Tag Checker

Enter a page URL to see every tag search engines and social networks read from it — title, meta description, canonical, robots directives, language, Open Graph and X card tags — with a pixel-accurate Google preview, Facebook and X share previews, and a plain list of what to fix.

The page is read exactly as a crawler receives it, before any JavaScript runs — which is also what most AI assistants see when they open a link.

Meta Tag Checker

Our server fetches the public page you name and keeps no copy of it.
How it works

How to check a page's meta tags

  1. 01

    Paste the page URL

Use the full address of the exact page you want to check — the homepage and a blog post carry different tags.

  2. 02

    Read the previews first

The Google result shows where the title and description get cut on desktop and mobile; the share cards show what people see when the link is posted.

  3. 03

Fix what is marked red, then amber

Red items stop the page from being indexed or shown properly; amber ones cost clicks. Every item says what to change.

  4. 04

    Re-check after deploying

Run the check again once your changes are live. Social networks cache previews, so they may need a re-scrape on their side too.

Honest notes

What this checker does and does not do

It reads the served HTML of one page and reports what is there. It does not execute JavaScript, so tags injected only by client-side scripts will show as missing — which is also how most crawlers other than Google's renderer see them.

Previews are close approximations, not screenshots. Google rewrites many titles and descriptions to fit the query, and each network changes its card layout from time to time.

Our server fetches the public page you enter, extracts the tags and keeps no copy of the page or the address.

Seonix does this on autopilot

Every article Seonix publishes ships with these tags set

Seonix writes the title and meta description for each article, sets the canonical and the Open Graph tags, and delivers it all to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Ghost or your own site. Its free site audit flags missing and duplicate tags across every other page.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check the meta tags of a website?

Paste the page URL into the checker above. It fetches the page, lists the title, meta description, canonical, robots, language, Open Graph and X tags, and flags anything missing, duplicated or too long. You can also open the page source in a browser and search the <head>, but you will not get the previews or the length checks.

Which meta tags matter for SEO?

The title tag and the meta description shape your search result; the robots meta tag and the canonical link decide whether and under which URL the page is indexed; the viewport tag matters because Google indexes the mobile version. Meta keywords are ignored by Google and are not checked here.

What are Open Graph tags?

og:title, og:description, og:image and og:url are tags that Facebook, LinkedIn, messengers and many chat apps read to build the preview card of a shared link. Without them the network guesses — usually a cropped image and the page title.

Why does Google show a different title than mine?

Google rewrites titles when it thinks another version describes the page better for the query — often when the title is very long, stuffed with keywords or does not match the H1. A clear title of 50–60 characters that matches the page heading is rewritten less often.

I fixed my tags but the share preview has not changed

Social networks cache link previews. After your change is live, ask the network to fetch the page again with its own sharing debugger, or wait for the cache to expire.
